We are delighted to share the recording of Episode 03 of Vibe with Venerables, where we get to talk “live” to Buddhist masters together.
In this episode, Soryu Forall explores the Buddhist concept of prapañca (Pali: papañca; Chinese: 妄想) —mental proliferation. Prapañca is an important concept in the Buddhist understanding of how conflict arises at the individual and collective level.
Do you ever find yourself stuck in repetitive thoughts, inner arguments, or fixed narratives about yourself or others? This talk offers a fresh look at how we create suffering through overthinking, opinion-holding, and clinging to views.
Soryu reviews texts from several traditions to understand this term, its connection with other terms such as Saṃjñā and Saṃskārā, and how we work with it in our meditation practice. Through references to key suttas from the Pali Canon and Mahayana texts—including the Madhupiṇḍika Sutta, Sakkapañha Sutta, and the Sabhiya Sutta—Soryu reveals how letting go of prapañca can lead to direct realization, peace, and compassionate engagement.
The session includes a short guided meditation, chanting, Dharma talk, and Q&A with participants.
