Coming Up: the Second Noble Truth

by | Nov 5, 2023 | Buddhism.net Blog

Friends,

If Soryu and I were forced to name one of the Four Noble Truths as the “linchpin” of the four, we would both choose the Second Noble. Because the Second Noble Truth primarily tells us that suffering has causes that accord with natural laws of cause and effect. That carries two profound implications:

  1. To be free from suffering, all we have to do is to “uncause” its causes.
  2. Liberation of suffering is moved from the realm of “religion” to the realm of “natural laws of cause and effect”.

As usual, if you have not caught up with the posts, it’s not too late. We plan to keep all Buddhism for All posts on Buddhism.net indefinitely (or, for as long as we can afford to keep the server running, whichever comes first). Just head over anytime.
