Dear friends,

Welcome to the Year of the Wood Snake, in 2025!

January 29, 2025 is Lunar New Year, the first day of the first lunar month of the year. This day is celebrated by Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and many other cultures. Lunar New Year is an auspicious day for everybody to share their best wishes. In that spirit, we wish you all a wonderful year ahead. May the new year bring you great joy. May your practice be fruitful. May you have a wonderful spiritual breakthrough. And may your hearts and minds be protected by the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha.

Coincidentally, this day, is also the birthday of Maitreya Buddha.

The name Maitreya is derived from the Sanskrit ‘Maitrī’ (Loving Kindness). In Pali the name becomes Metteyya, in Chinese Milefo, in Japanese Miroku, and in Mongolian Maidari; in Tibetan Byams-pa (“Kind,” or “Loving”). The Buddha Maitreya makes his first appearance in Buddhist scriptures in the Cakkavatti Sutta of the Pali Tipitika (Digha Nikaya 26), making him the earliest Bodhisattva and the only one mentioned in the text of both Mahayana and Theravada traditions. In some Buddhist literature, the Buddha Maitreya is referred to as Ajita. He is the most renowned of Bodhisattvas who is now in the Tusita Heaven and will lead the coming era, as a Buddha.”   — Text Source: Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

Loving wishing from all of us at the Buddhism.net.
