In honor of the International Day of Peace 2026: “Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” we share this recitation by Venerable Juewei of “A Prayer for World Peace” by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, Fo Guang Shan (佛光山).
Amid suffering and conflict around the world, this heartfelt prayer calls upon us to replace jealousy with admiration, hatred with harmony, greed with generosity, discrimination with mutual respect, and prejudice with acceptance. It is an aspiration for compassion to resolve conflict, for light to reach the dark corners of the world, and for all beings to experience peace and happiness.
Venerable Juewei is a Bhikshuni at Fo Guang Shan (佛光山) and Director of the Humanistic Buddhism Centre at Nan Tien Institute.
May this prayer contribute to peace and the well-being of all beings. 🙏

Great Compassionate Buddha!
Today we are gathered before you in prayer. Please listen to our heartfelt words.
There is so much suffering and sorrow in this world!
We wish that in this world:
There is no jealousy, only admiration;
There is no hatred, only harmony;
There is no greed, only generosity;
There is no misfortune, only accomplishment.
In this world, let there be:
No discrimination on gender or age, only mutual respect;
No differentiation between the wealthy and the destitute, only mutual co-operation;
No racial prejudice, only mutual acceptance.
We are to learn from your compassion to resolve all conflicts;
We are to learn from your aura, to illuminate the dark corners of the world.
Great Compassionate Buddha!
Today we sincerely pray to you for world peace and universal happiness! Please accept our sincere prayer!
Na Mo Shakyamuni Buddha
