In Episode 25 of Vibe with Venerables, Bhante Sujato talks about four ways to put out the fires of conflict even before they are started. He discusses the Buddhist principles of conflict resolution, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and community building. Bhante Sujato references two Suttas: Aṅguttara Nikāya 9.5 – Powers (Bala Sutta), and Aṅguttara Nikāya 4.32 – Inclusion (Saṅgaha Sutta).

Bhante highlights four key practices for building community, solidarity and inclusivity. These four practices are known as sangaha-vattu, sometimes translated as “ways to draw people in”. They are: 1. giving, 2. kindly words, 3. taking care, and 4. equality. He explains that giving should not just be effective, but also heartfelt, and that inclusivity is crucial for building a harmonious community. He also addresses the challenges of modern conflict resolution, advocating for peaceful methods over violence. Additionally, Bhante Sujato touches on the importance of equality in spiritual practices and the need for balanced giving, both within and outside religious communities.
