We are delighted to share the recording of Episode 18 of Vibe with Venerables, where we get to talk “live” to Buddhist masters together.
Venerable Damcho discusses empathetic joy, its cultivation, and the obstacles to it, particularly jealousy. She explains that empathetic joy involves feeling joy for others’ successes and good qualities, which can be challenging due to self-centered thoughts and jealousy.
Venerable Damcho emphasizes the importance of rejoicing in one’s own virtues and actions as a foundation for empathetic joy. She also highlights the need to recognize the impermanence of worldly pleasures and to focus on internal states and long-term happiness.
This episode includes an opening prayer of refuge and cultivating the four immeasurables, and end with a dedication of merit.
